Sok Lay

Hi there,

My name is Sok Lay and I am a wife, first-time mother, new blogger, overly curious person and a recovering perfectionist (more about my story here).

The La Land is a space for me to journalise my honest and humble account of being a new mother while attempting to uncover some hidden realities of new motherhood.

Yes, you heard it. I will talk to you candidly about the many failures I had experienced so far as a mum.

Let’s face it, no one likes to feel like a failure because everyone wants to win. But motherhood is not a race, so there’s no winning nor losing.

To put it differently, it’s more like what Thomas Edison once said: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas Edison

Being a mother is tough:

  • It is loneliness at a level you never experienced before and
  • the struggles of life magnified because of sleep deprivation.

So I hope by sharing my failures, struggles and mistakes, I will help myself and perhaps yourself feel less shameful about our situations (not that I am saying our situations are bad).

“It’s not easy to normalise the stigma attached to failures due to societal obsession about successes,”

I know, but it is a good start as motherhood is vulnerable time for women to go through. We need as much support as we can possibly get.

My support to you is to share with you candidly about my trials and tribulations of being a new mum.

I hope through my stories

I can empower you to surrender yourself to motherhood by being a bit more willing to open up about the struggles (and of course, please share the successes as well!) in your journey as a mother.
